Roulette Makes a Comeback

Roulette Makes a Comeback

A recent report published by the Nevada Gaming Control Board contained some interesting, if surprising, statistics. It seems that the iconic casino game of Roulette is making a bit of a comeback in Nevada casinos, showing marked increases this year and through most of 2016. Casino owners and Heads of Operations are set to cash in on a revival in popularity after reviewing high percentage increases in year on year figures.

It seems that the game is attracting younger customers, it’s popular with gamblers before and after they hit nightclubs on the Strip. The Senior Vice President of casino operations at Las Vegas Sands Corp, Rob Cinelli, says “Although roulette is not a skill-based game, players have a feeling that they are responsible for the outcome by placing the bet, unlike a slot where there’s no involvement other than pushing a button. We are seeing that our roulette players’ age is skewing a bit younger. So we are seeing an increase in volume and also a decrease in the age of the demographic playing it.”

As volumes increase, management have added an additional five to seven roulette wheels in the last 18 months at the Venetian and Palazzo casinos.
The owner of lasvegasadvisor.com agrees with the casinos, he’s also seen an increase in roulette play, noting that there are far fewer dead roulette tables than previously and the crowds are certainly younger; it seems that having a few drinks and gathering round the roulette table is pretty cool these days.

Michael Lawton a senior researcher with the Control Board says “The state set a record in roulette volume in 2012 with $2.1 billion in wagers, which was due to some very strong Latin America play that hasn’t returned to those levels in four years. However, he confirms the resurgence with 2016 being a good year with increases in win and volume, the only other game that saw a relative year on year increase being bingo.
